Just started watching this.
Pryce said this was in Ohio, at the start. If I were on the twitters, I’d be livetweeting this. That’s where I grew up, in the snow, with heavy machinery, computers, and parents who apparently hated each other. The early 80s were what they were
. NE Ohio was a bastion of concrete and machinery. Cleveland, Akron, Solon, Rootstown, Garretsville.
The walking home from school as the snow melts was me as a kid
. The crazy huge concrete buildings where people make... things. The weird, loud noises that resonate in your toes and ears, because people are making big things.
It’s like my childhood in the snow with sci-fi and heartbreak all just put on film.
I don’t know where it’s going, but this thing is like my whole childhood made into a movie.

If you grew up in snow and machines, it’ll be devastating.
Apparently I’m the target market, and I was there way before anyone said go. I’ve loved Simon’s paintings from the first instant.
Now I’m just watching it and what they did to translate it to a narrative is pretty and too close to home.

Great acting, mood, environment. Pace is slow as hell which is a different experience after a diet of fast cut Hollywood
flicks
. My attention span has atrophied from the modern internet diet. We’ll see how this goes.

I’ve been waiting for time to watch it. It’s kinda like my whole life.

I always liked the art that is used in this, pretty cool that they took something like illustrations and made a show around it. I can think of many artists they should do this with.

The walking home from school as the snow melts was me as a kid.
True story: as a kid, I lived for two years in Winnipeg.
Our apartment was about a mile from my kindergarten, and I walked, alone, to/from school nearly every day. Very rarely, when it was truly bitterly cold I got a ride.
And of course, Winnipeg got its share of snow.
So if I had had kids, and if then had grandkids, I could be that old man telling them how easy they have it, that I had to walk a mile to school in the snow, and I’d be speaking Truth.
Sadly I didn’t think that far ahead.

i’ve been watching it. I made 2/3 of the way thru the grandfther episode ( i was too drunk to pay attention to the last 1/3) the show overall seems pretty depressing. does it pick up at all after the grandfather episode?

Well, since I’m a life long NW Ohio resident, this may be of interest to me.

eh. It’s different. The atmosphere is unique and well put together. Not sure yet if you’re missing out. I like different but slow pace may kill me.
ha - just had an insight. It’s a lot like looking at his paintings. He conveys a very unique feel and mood in the art. The show does the same and possibly throws in a plot.
If you want I can burn some DVD’s of it and send them to you.

That would be awesome. I would even pay you for your efforts.

OK, I’ll go download and go about it. It’ll be a few days before I need an address. Do we have PM or DM capability here?
I don’t need money. And
I’m mostly sitting around on the internet anyway. I suppose you could send me blank DVDs after.
